Supporting Balliol

The support of Old Members is very important to the College. Throughout Balliol's history, gifts and bequests have provided the means to grow and develop as an institution. In particular, many of the buildings, Fellowships, scholarships and bursary funds for students exist because Old Members have been very generous.

In order to continue to deliver a first-class education to future generations, Oxford as a whole has embarked on a major campaign to raise at least £1.25 billion from its alumni and friends, and from other benefactors world-wide who care about the values and mission of the University. Balliol is fully supportive of this move by the University and is conducting its own campaign in parallel, ‘The 750th anniversary and beyond'. The sums we raise for the College will be counted towards the University's target. Over the coming years, we are asking all Old Members and other supporters to help to play a part in achieving Balliol's goals.

There are a number of tax incentives for those wishing to make a gift to Balliol and who are taxpayers in the UK, USA or Canada. Further details can be found in the sections on Tax efficient ways of giving and on Bequests.

Now, more than ever, such help is needed. Our Old Members - those who know Balliol best and have benefited most from its education and opportunities - are asked to contribute, at whatever level they can afford, on a regular basis to the College. In addition, many people who are not Old Members wish to support Balliol, as they recognise that it is an institution of outstanding academic reputation. We are delighted to have their help too.

Your contribution will play a role in ensuring that the College's traditions of academic excellence, tolerance, acceptance of diversity, and internationalism will continue for generations of students to come.
